Multiple-shell diffusive conduction in multiwalled carbon nanotubes

摘要
Multiprobe electrical transport measurements on individual multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) are described. Data collected from many samples suggest that MWNTs are diffusive conductors with resistances dependent on both length and diameter. Furthermore, our measurements reveal room temperature nonlocal voltages, and combinations of semiconducting and metallic behaviors within a single MWNT. Both types of observations indicate conduction through more than one current path. A simple model in which two or more weakly coupled shells conduct in parallel is consistent with all of the observed behaviors.
