Fuel processing in fuel cell systems

摘要
Fuel processing is analyzed for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) and Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) systems. Special attention is given to natural gas and methanol as energy carrier. In both cases it appears, that with close integration of fuel processing into the fuel cell stacks, efficiency and cost advantages result for the complete fuel cell system. However, at the present state complete internal reforming with SOFC or direct methanol fuel cells with sufficient efficiency has not been realized yet. The paper presents data of optimized reformer designs to be used in stationary and mobile systems.
