Industrial evaluation of an adaptive elicitation process to capture engineering knowledge about product design reliability

摘要
During the product development process it is important to use engineering knowledge to identify potential reliability problems within the proposed design. A process, developed to elicit engineering concerns about new designs and to estimate the chance concerns may occur as failures, has been applied to several industrial cases. The translation of the elicitation theory to practice is examined. Mapping techniques are used to better capture engineering reasoning about design concerns. The data gathered as part of the evaluation of the approach allows recommendations for adapting the elicitation process for different engineering cultures.
