English and American literature plays an important role in college English teaching of non-English majors. It can inspire students' interests by its unique way, it can enlarge students' vocabularies, it can provide students with abundant cultural backgrounds. So, the higher educators should pay attention to its function on the teaching of college English and change it into a big help to students' English learning.
