摘要
Tremendous advances in computer hardware and communication have made mobile computing feasible. In this paper, a new transaction management scheme for mobile computing environments is proposed. The proposed scheme attempts to support desired features in the mobile computing paradigm while complying with the existing constraints imposed by the mobile environment. It is scalable for a growing number of mobile units and is tuned for the expected workload by providing special processing of mad-only transactions. It supports the various modes of operation of a mobile unit, namely, the fully connected, partly connected, and fully disconnected modes and allows a smooth transition between them. It attempts to minimize wireless communication, specially in the uplink direction from the mobile unit to the mobile support station, one of the most scarce resources in the mobile environment. A queuing network is proposed to model the system. A simulator, based on this model, is built to verify and analyze the behavior of the proposed transaction management scheme.
