Croatian civil society getting status of reliable stakeholder

Civil society in Croatia, because of the war and related issues, has a different legacy in 1990s then in other Central European transitional countries. This paper presents results o CIVICUS Civil Society Index in Croatia. Structure of civil society gives the evidence that civil society is more and more prepared to mobilise additional resources. Environment in which civil society operate with the specific tradition provide more space to civil society initiatives. In promoting civic values civil organisation play very important role for building civil culture. Low level of trust makes unbridgeable obstacle for development of civil society rooted in local communities. Still, civil society in general has a limited impact but with some positive cases. Low level of citizen participation and donor driven agenda in civil society priorities are issues which need to be addressed in future development.
