A new kind of flow injection system was presented for the determination of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in water by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) using on-line preconcentration on a microcolumn packed with activated alumina. The working parameters were discussed and optimized. The detection limit was 0.8 mug/L for Cr(III) and 0.6 mug/L for Cr(VI). Sampling frequency was 60/h. Linear calibration for both species was established over the concentration rang of 5 similar to 600 mug/L, RSD < 2.4%. The recoveries was 94.0% &SIM; 102%.
