Molecular genetic methods in research and diagnosis of inherited eye disorders

Tile practical significance of genetic eye disorders is continuously growing and becomes a challenge both for ophthalmologists and geneticists. Our understanding on the molecular basis of inherited disorders has been rapidly evolving during the past couple of years following the identification of many 'eye-specific' genes and disease causing mutations of the genes implicated ill inherited diseases. The progress of research and diagnostics in inherited human disorders is closely linked to the rapid development of experimental tools used in recombinant DNA technology.
