An investigation was made of the influence of high-temperature annealing in vacuum on the optical homogeneity of LiNbO3 single crystals. It was observed that the residual light transmission decreased appreciably and the temperature dependence of this parameter almost completely disappeared. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.
