The dynamic ion-beam mixed implantation (DIMI) method was employed to coat polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) film to investigate which films and substrates best promote dropwise condensation. Dropwise and dropwise-filmwise coexisting condensation occurred on various substrates under atmospheric pressure. The experimental results demonstrated that the DIMI method may be a potential technique for preparing polymer films that maintain long-term dropwise condensation. The experiments also showed that the choice of substrate materials greatly affected the condensation heat transfer characteristics.
