Although a number of alternative network models are available for planning purposes, providing valuable information for performing Before-and-After analysis and supporting transport policy decisions, these outcomes are subject to the properties being selected. In the current study an application-oriented comparative investigation concerning the influence and sensitivity of alternative model property selection is performed, providing some insight on the effects that even small model modifications may have on transportation-related environmental assessment factors. Seven strategic (static) demand assignment models and algorithms have been tested against a wide range of model setups (more than 65) while the results of the investigation from a realistic size road network yield substantial evidence and reference data on the effects of model selection decisions, especially as they concern the network-wide environmental performance.
