Cyclic deformation characteristics of cemented calcareous soil

The cyclic deformation characteristics of anisotropicaily consolidated cemented calcareous soils were investigated in detail at different confining pressure, and with different types of cyclic loading, (one-way or two-way) and consolidation history. Although increasing the static deviator stress during consolidation decreases the peak strength and initial stiffness significantly in cemented samples, it was observed that the qualitative pattern of stiffness degradation in anisotropically consolidated samples during cyclic loading is similar to that of isotropically consolidated samples. The linear variation of degradation index with respect to number of cycles observed in anisotropically consolidated samples was synthesised using the same equation developed for isotropically consolidated samples. However better results can be obtained if the results are presented in terms of modified definition of the cyclic shear strength parameter.
