Kinetic and mechanistic studies on reactions of some bis(dithiocarbamato)copper(II) complexes with periodate

Kinetics and mechanism of reactions of three copper(II)dithiocarbamato complexes [Cu(R(1)R(2)dtc)(2)] (where R1=R2 = Me or Et or R-1= Me and R-2 = Ph; dtc = -NCS2-) with periodate have been studied. In all these cases order with respect to periodate as well as complex has been found to be unity. An accelerating effect of the added ligand has been observed in all the three cases and the logarithm of initial rate versus inverse of dielectric constant plot is linear. No iodate effect has been observed in all the cases except Cu(II)(MePhdtc)(2). A straight line with a negative slope has been obtained when initial rate is plotted against iodate concentration in the case of Cu(II)(MePhdtc)(2). Activation parameters have also been determined and a suitable mechanism has been proposed based on the facts mentioned above.
