Factors that Determine Milk Consumption in the Federal District, Mexico

Milk is one of the main foods for human consumption, in Mexico is the third product of greater presence in households and accounts for 10.0% of expenditure on food consumption. The aim of this study was to determine the factors that determine the consumption of milk in the Federal Distrit (DF) using a nominal variable approach (logit and probit) and 400 surveys. Results showed that the variables that influence the acquisition of milk are schooling, number per household, product information, and addition of nutrients to milk and the presence of some organic dysfunction for consumption. The largest marginal effects were found in variables: product information and incorporation of vitamins and nutrients, while the price of milk and income were not significant when deciding the purchase.
