Energy Efficiency Analysis and Energy Conservation Measures for Ethiopian Universities: Introducing Green Campus Initiative

摘要
Ethiopian access to electricity remains severely limited with a per capita use of about 81 kWH, which is significantly below the 550 kWH consumed by Africans. The energy requirement of Ethiopian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) is increasing daily with a corresponding increase in infrastructure and student population. This paper presents a "Green Campus Initiative" to HEIs aimed at providing insight into the energy-saving potential of HEIs. A walk-through audit of Arba Minch University (AMU) in Ethiopia was performed to collect and analyze the energy usage of the university. The results show that the university has the potential to save 646,234 kWH of energy per year, which is enough to power 3846 rural households or 2798 urban households.
