Quality and management of eLearning in European Universities

The 52 Universities in Switzerland and in the EU regions "Four Motors for Europe" (Baden-Wurttemberg, Catalunya, Lombardia and Rhone-Alpes) were asked to fill-in a questionnaire trying to assess the quality of their eLearning activities, as well as some related eLearning management parameters. On the basis of the answers (60% of the group) further in-depth interviews have been done with 27 of the most active European institutions. The resulting picture shows an impressive growth in eLearning activities and in their quality, the emergence of a few eLearning management models, as well as many issues/problems yet to be solved. The results of this survey furthermore outlines that eLearning is undoubtedly spreading both in distance and presence universities. However, eLearning is not for the moment conveying fundamental changes in these institutions, but it is rather being integrated into the existing organisations and educational offer.
