In this paper, we discuss the overall process of battle management as a system problem addressed in the project SHARED (Strategies for Human-Automaton Resource Entity Deployment). First, the hierarchical structure set up in the SHARED and the problems in battle management are outlined. Many issues are involved in battle management: definition of tasks, sequencing of tasks, timing of tasks and resource allocation to the tasks. Depletion of resources in each stage of the battle is probabilistic, so a rolling horizon over multiple stages is considered with average parameters. In each stage, a simple resource allocation approach is used, with which nonhomogenous resources can be divided into several tasks in this stage. The effects of adversary variables are discussed, and new ad hoc formulations are introduced for different types of tasks to calculate the duration for each stage.
