THE THIRD PARTY IN MEDIATION AND PEACE RITUALS IN SIXTEENTH CENTURY FRIULI

This article analyzes the role played by the third party in Friuli during the sixteenth century. It seems that the place in which usually the settlements happened was castle, when the third party was socially higher Conversely, the settlements took place at village parish, when the contenders and the third party were socially at the same level. Further more, it seems that the agreement was imposed when third party was socially upper, while in the case of social equality, the settlement was the result of the mediation done by the third party.
