Solubility study of the halite and wurtzite solid solutions in the MgO-ZnO system within temperature range from 1000 to 1600 °C

摘要
Subsolidus phase relationships of the MgO-ZnO system in equilibrium with air (P-tot = 1atm, P-O2 = 0.21 atm) have been studied using the equilibration/quenching/EPMA technique within the temperature range from 1000 degrees C to 1600 degrees C. In this study, we have quantified the solubility of ZnO in solid halite (MgO-rich) phase, which ranges from 24.59 at.% at 1000 degrees C to 43.49 at.% at 1600 degrees C. MgO also has an obvious solubility in terminal wurtzite (ZnO-rich) phase, which can be as much as 16.94 at.% at 1600 degrees C. The results from present and previous studies have been compared with the binary MgO-ZnO phase diagram calculated by MTDATA software5.10 and its MTOX 8.1 database; the difference is significant, and the system requires a re-assessment.
