Optimization of Ultrasonic-Assisted Process of Adenosine Extraction from Bamboo Shavings

A single-factor experiment for determining the extraction temperature, liquid-to-solid ratio, sonication time, and ethanol concentration was designed to investigate the influence of these parameters on the extraction of adenosine from bamboo shavings. Afour-factor orthogonal test was then carried out to optimize the extraction performance. Results showed that all these parameters significantly influenced the extraction of adenosine. The range and variance analyses based on the orthogonal test revealed that ethanol concentration produced most significant direct effect on the extraction of adenosine, followed by liquid-to-solid ratio and sonication time. The highest yield of adenosine was achieved by extraction at temperature 50 degrees C, liquid-to-solid ratio 15:1 (v/w), sonication time 45 min, and ethanol concentration 0% (v/v). This optimized extraction procedure resulted in 1.42 mg/g adenosine yield and a 96.7% adenosine extraction from bamboo shavings.
