摘要
Homogeneous catalysis of the oxidation of pentanone-3 and 4-methylpentanone-2 by cerium(IV) sulphate has been investigated in aqueous sulphuric acid medium. The reaction rate exhibitc zero order kinetics with respect to cerium(IV) sulphate and first order kinetics with respect to pentanone-3 and 4-methylpentanone-2. The rate of the reaction follows linear dependence on hydrogen ions at low concentrations of sulphuric acid and inversely proportional to the square of hydrogen ion at higher concentrations of sulphuric acid. The reaction rate follows first order kinetics with respect to iridium(III) chloride. The rate constants and activation parameters have been calculated. The suitable mechanistic steps and rate expression consistent with the observed kinetic data are suggested.
