Dietary habits and condition of gilt-head sea bream. Sparus aurata (Teleostei: Sparidae) in the Mellah lagoon (North-Eastern Algeria). The feeding habits of Sparits aurata in the Mellah lagoon (northeastern Algeria) was studied using three simple methods (frequency of occurrence of prey, numeric percentage and percentage weight) and a feeding coefficient. Monthly variations in the stomach vacuity were also examined. The diet includes a wide variety of food organisms, fish and molluscs bivalvia constituting the favorite preys. A relationship between feeding activity and body condition was observed.
