Prehospital emergency care in children

Paediatric emergencies are a particular challenge for physicians, in particular for those who have no specialist paediatric training. However, prehospital emergency care in children rarely requires specific paediatric medical expertise. In the majority of cases, it suffices when the child is delivered into the hands of a paediatrician or a doctor with expertise in the emergency treatment of children. What is essential is that the attending physician should have specific training in the implement of life-preserving measures. To ensure this, a period of on-the-spot experience or participation in simulation-based training is to be recommended. In addition, such tabular aids as for dose finding and decision taking can be useful. Current guidelines for paediatric life support have not introduced any significant changes.
