A web-based group decision support system for value management studies in construction

A group decision support system (GDSS) is an interactive computer-based information system which combines the capabilities of communication technologies, database technologies, computer technologies, and decision technologies to support the identification, analysis, formulation, evaluation, and solution of semi-structured or unstructured problems by a group in a user-friendly computing environment. As there is a strong demand for improvements to the practice of Value Management (VM) and a wide use of the Internet, research has been conducted to design a web-based GDSS and explore its application in VM studies and get the effect of the application. This paper aims to give a summary of the research. It begins with an introduction to VM and GDSS and the problems of implementing VM in construction. This is followed by a description of the features and the development of the proposed system, a GDSS system which has been developed in the research. Finally, the directions of future studies are discussed.
