摘要
What waste pickers and collectors do in the cities plays a key role on the collection of recyclables and even on municipal solid waste (MSW) management system both in China and other countries on the globe, protecting the environment, decreasing the social costs of manage MSW (including MSW collection, transportation, disposal such as landfilling, composting and incinerating) and also diminishing the depletion of resources. This paper is a case study of analysis of waste pickers and collectors' doing in Beijing, discussing MSW management system and giving at least three suggestions for it from the management of waste pickers and collectors. They are: (1) to improve environmental consciousness of the dwellers and spread knowledge of what the wastes are comprised of, and how they need to be categorized and collected; (2) to improve consciousness of categorizing usable recyclables of waste pickers and collectors, spreading knowledge of composition, categorization, collection, transportation, and disposal of MSW; (3) to legislate on waste pickers and collectors as soon as possible and set up a company to manage and supervise the works and the markets of recyclables of them, encouraging professional management.
