Multiwavelength monitoring of high and low luminosity AGN

A number of radio-quiet and radio-loud AGN were intensively monitored during the long lifetime of IUE. In particular, the International AGN Watch successfully monitored several Seyfert 1 galaxies, usually obtaining near-simultaneous observations in several wavebands. During it's final period of operation these multiwavelength campaigns were extended to a luminous radio-loud object, 3C390.3 and some of the results from this campaign are presented. Recent results of a exploratory optical and X-ray monitoring campaign on the ultra-low luminosity AGN NGC4395 (a dwarf Seyfert) are also reported. While such objects were was too faint for IUE, they would be well within the capabilities of a new UV monitoring facility.
