Caecal Volvulus in Pregnancy

Cecal volvulus is a rare cause of acute abdominal pain and intestinal obstruction, which if left untreated can lead to sepsis and death. Its clinical presentation is highly variable ranging from intermittent relenting abdominal pain to severe acute pain associated with sepsis and bowel strangulation. This is a case report of a 20-year-old lady who presented with signs of intestinal obstruction during the 28th week of pregnancy (dead fetus) with CECT abdomen showing a cecal volvulus and was treated with an emergency exploratory laparotomy followed by resection of cecal volvulus with ileo-ascending colon (end to end) anastomosis with proximal divided ileostomy with hysterotomy. The patient made an uneventful recovery, and the symptoms associated with cecal volvulus and intestinal obstruction were relieved on our follow-up.
