Stripe structure in the ferromagnetic insulating phase of La1-xSrxMnO3

The atomic displacement involved in the crystal structure of the ferromagnetic insulating phase in La1-xSrxMnO3 has been reexamined by transmission electron microscopy, using a x = 0.15 single crystal. An analysis of the: electron diffraction patterns taken From the x = 0.15 samples showed that the atomic displacement consists of a superposition of the Jahn-Teller displacement with q(overdot) =< 1/2 1/2 0 > (C) and the inverse Jahn-Teller one with q(overdot) =< 1/2 1/2 1/4 > (C), where the subscript c denotes the cubic Brillouin zone. The crystal structure involving these displacements can be identified as a stripe structure.
