Structure-soil-structure interaction studies

The paper outlines lessons learned from recent SSI analyses carried out by BNF pie with the majority of examples derived from a recent analysis of B41. All of these analyses consider the effects of structure-soil-structure interaction with anything from two to five foundations in-lose proximity. The structures resting on these foundations were modelled in detail with between 100 and 600 degrees of freedom for each structure and a combination of steel and concrete construction. The analysis programs used were SHAKE and CLASSI. The paper is divided into four areas; these present an overview of methods, means of validating the results, lessons learned from the SSSI analyses and use of SSSI results for design of new facilities.
