摘要
Miniaturization leads to significant changes in the structure of the insect brain. The question of how these rearrangements affect the functioning of the brain is of great interest for understanding the evolution of the brain and the cognitive characteristics of animals. Previously, learning ability has been shown in several microinsects, but approaches to learning were highly specialized, which made comparative work difficult. We have developed a setup based on the Morris water maze paradigm for the aversive associative teaching of various miniature insects to visual stimuli. This setup was used to study the behavior of Trips tabaci (Thysanoptera, Thripidae), allowing for the ability for associative learning and memory formation to be demonstrated in thrips for the first time.
