摘要
This article investigates the efficiency and Quality of Service (QoS) improvements that can be obtained by the introduction of Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) compared to static bandwidth allocation in an ATM based Passive Optical access Network (APON). Measurement results have been obtained based on a dynamic Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol demonstrator implemented on a SuperPON transport system. The Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) demonstrator allows the implementation of downstream grants per ONT (Optical Network Termination) or subdivided per Traffic Container class (T-Cont) and upstream request by piggybacking or dedicated polling slots. The platform of the demonstrator has been implemented in a configurable way in order to be able to evaluate both the dynamic bandwidth allocation schemes of SuperPON and of the G.983.dba APON.
