On syntactic constructions of the form SN se faire ADV

In this study, descriptive observations are made on a couple of sentences constructed on the pronominal form of the verb faire. At first sight, they seem. to be diathetic variants of a transitive support verb construction, in conformity with the typical scheme of diathetic oppositions which french transitive verbs show. Contrary to a normal transitive verb, this verb shows, though, a particular use of se-middle, called descriptive se-middle, which seems to neutralize the difference with the se-neuter use. Under the light of the distributional hypothesis on the subject of a predicative noun, the pronominal form se faire reveals itself not to be a form of support faire, but of a different type. Se-neuter and descriptive se-middle constructions are associated with inaccusative and transitive base structures, respectively.
