摘要
The strength of virtual technology in preserving culture and heritage has been well researched. However, in developing country like Malaysia, this method of preservation is rarely used especially in terms of Malay folktales perpetuation field of research. It is important to keep the folktales alive as it is one of the medium for the children to learn about moral values. Currently, Malay folktales facing a serious problem where the folktales are being forgotten by the society especially amongst the children as more foreign folktales entered the country through the existence of border less technology like Internet. The lack of endeavor in conserving the folktales has become the main objective of this research and therefore we used Second Life as the platform in order to bring back the precious Malaysian children literature via modern technology. In this paper, we introduced KANCIL model and will share our experience in developing Malay virtual folktales; Hikayat Land in Second Life. We do hope that it can contributes to Malay folktales preservation endeavor and will be a new direction for other researchers to enrich the venture in this field of research rather than only depending on 2-dimensional technology.
