Sexual Transgression and Music in the Horror Film

The article explores the relationship between music and sexual transgression in four horror films from the sixties and seventies: Shivers, The Innocents, You Better Watch Out and God Told Me To. Typical for the genre of horror, all four of these films put social norms into question. Particularly as reflections of the era of the sexual revolution, these films take many kinds of sexual phenomena as topics, for example, paedophilia, homosexuality, sexual intercourse between different ages, group sex, hermaphrodites, and children's sexuality. In all these films, sexuality and music have a close relationship in that the music reveals (or suggests) sexual desires or puts sexual practices into perspective.
