摘要
Wireless ATM achieves the demand for delivery of multimedia service to mobile terminals (MT). The continuity of a call is processed by the handover. During handover, cell loss and misordering may be experienced. An approach to provide lossless handover is cell buffering. However, buffering induces cell delay variation (CDV) or jitter. CDV deteriorates constant bit rate (CBR) type video transmission. This paper presents the way to suppress both cell loss and CDV by buffering at the destination base station and MT. The buffer analysis determines the buffer size as a function of cell loss ratio (CLR) and CDV We can observe that the CLR, which is lower than 10(-3), gives a beneficial design of the BS buffer requirement. The increment of MT buffer, increasing MT buffer size for low downstream transmission rate can absorb the jitter significantly more than high downstream transmission rate. The validity of the analysis results has been verified as well.
