Shape effect on deformation behaviour and stability of slurry trench walls constructed in sandy ground

摘要
The stability mechanism of slurry trenches constructed in saturated sandy ground was investigated by 2D and 3D centrifuge model tests. The effect of surcharge on the stability of the 3D trench was also studied. The test results show that the stability of the 3D slurry trenches in sandy ground depends on the horizontal arch action. The deforming zone in the ground due to lowering of the slurry level is also dependent on the shape of the trench.
