Issues in Collaborative Online International Learning

Online communication enables international and intercultural cooperation of students without a need for costs and logistics connected with traveling. However, if the learning should be effective, it is necessary to built the online courses with regards to cultural barriers and differences. This article focuses on issues connected with course design for courses that include at international collaboration. It reviews a few cases of international collaborative courses from literature and personal experiences of the author to demonstrate how these issues influence learning process. Then the focus shifts onto general course design recommendations for building international online courses, ending with a practical list of issues and areas to focus on.
