The past twenty years have, paradoxically, seen a growing recognition of the importance of sustainability, coupled with clearly unsustainable increases in textile production and a doubling of the amount of clothing items purchased each year. True sustainability on a planet of almost 8 billion means a combination of clean production, efficient recycling, and reduced consumption.
