摘要
This paper is aimed at evaluation of impacts of the economic crisis on international migration and the labor market in the European Union. The demand for labor during the economic downturn declines, and this can lead to policies that propose restrictions on new immigration into the country. Political restrictions on inflows of skilled workers, or even an absolute reduction in the current numbers, can be very dangerous for the economy. Companies are aware of the specific skills of highly qualified migrant workers that are in relation to unskilled workers very rare and even during the economic recession as long as possible, are trying to delay their dismissal. Even in periods of economic downturn, highly qualified workers may to help companies in implementing new methods or techniques for overcoming the crisis period and get a better starting position in comparison with potential competitors when the crisis is over.
