The effect of injection of gas from the surface of a sphere on friction and heat transfer under conditions of nonuniform turbulent hypersonic flow

Within the theory of viscous shock layer, a numerical investigation is performed of nonuniform hypersonic flow past a sphere with due regard for turbulence in the shock layer and uniform injection of gas from the surface. The algebraic model of Sovershennyi is used for the coefficient of turbulent transfer, and a difference scheme of higher order of accuracy is used for numerical solution of equations. The distribution of heat flux, coefficient of friction, and mass transfer on the sphere surface as functions of the degree of nonuniformity, injection parameter, and Reynolds number are derived. The similarity relationships are determined for the maximum values of the coefficients of heat and mass transfer and friction as functions of the determining parameters of nonuniform flow, which are convenient for engineering applications.
