摘要
The effect of relative humidity (RH) on membrane degradation in a polymer electrolyte fuel cell was investigated for membranes prepared by radiation grafting of styrene into ETFE base film, followed by sulfonation. During the open circuit voltage (OCV) tests, online measurement of OCV and high frequency resistance (HFR) indicated that membrane degradation was slower and less significant towards lower RH. This in situ observation was confirmed by the quantification of the degree of degradation using post-test membrane analysis by FTIR spectroscopy. The reduced membrane degradation at low RH showed a good agreement with the lower gas crossover under dry conditions. (c) 2013 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.
