Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine: A major development in clinical forensic medicine

This article introduces the new Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, describes the scope of Clinical Forensic Medicine, and discusses its relevance to Emergency Medicine. There are many situations where forensic issues are important in emergency practice and ACEM trainees have had access to a Victorian forensic medicine rotation for almost 20 years. The stage is now set for an expansion of Clinical Forensic Medicine services on a wider scale and for the discipline to eventually take its place as a recognised specialty.
