New Feminism in Norden - A Challenge to State Feminism

In this article I want to highlight some recent examples of feminist revitalisation in the Nordic countries ('Norden'). Younger generations - socialised into the view that the Nordic welfare states have successfully realised the gender equality project - claim that the inequalities they experience in everyday life reveal severe drawbacks and paradoxes in the Nordic gender model. These expressions of 'new feminism' clash with the predominant state feminist discourse in the Nordic countries and therefore highlight some of the "shadows in the women-friendly Nordic paradise".
