摘要：

SAP R/3 is an example for a highly complex and integrated software package, whose database systems have to manage huge amounts of data. In R/3 almost no data can be deleted, so functions are needed to relieve the database system from some load. For this, archiving data is an appropriate technology. In R/3 the concept of database-based archiving is implemented. This paper motivates archiving independent of concrete applications. Archiving in the R/3 system is explained in general, as well as the ADK (Archive Development Kit). An example demonstrates the use of these concepts. Finally, SAP ArchiveLink is introduced, the interface for optical archiving systems.
