摘要
The health monitoring of composite electrical insulators (CEIs) is important for their safe operation and service. We investigate a model to analyze and measure the stress and strain distribution inside the CEI with embedded FBGs. Comparisons between the experimental results obtained from the embedded FBGs and the analytical solutions under various pulling forces are given, and the distribution characteristics of the stress and strain inside CEI are discussed. The result shows the model and measurement scheme are effective and validated in monitoring the change of stress and strain inside CEI during the mechanic tests. The model, analytical formulas and FBG measurement presented in this paper are important for the design and development of smart CEI with embedded FBG sensors.
