Everyday life and problems of life arrangements. On understanding of social work and therapy

Cooperation between social work and therapy within the scope of psychiatric work is based on an understanding of illness which sees illness as an inadequate coping pattern for dealing with real life tasks. Fundamental structures of the real world, inadequate coping patterns and above all inadequate coping patterns in modern life are presented; consequences for help which endeavours to build up or to stabilise real life coping patterns in the medium of real life are outlined; the increasing significance of social work is highlighted; a scale of different forms of helpful settings is drawn up; problems and barriers confronted in such cooperation are discussed.
