Balanced-homodyne detection of surface second-harmonic generation

摘要
An ac optical balanced homodyne detection (OBHD) system was developed to simultaneously measure the intensity and phase in surface second-harmonic generation. Extremely high sensitivity of 3 aW (6 photon/sec) has been achieved by use of a lock-in amplifier, in which an interference signal of fundamental waves is used as a reference signal. Experimental results of simultaneous measurement of the intensity and phase in surface second-harmonic waves generated from native-oxidized Si(111) surfaces is presented.
