摘要
In an effort to enhance active learning in the subject of internal combustion engines, we introduced the combined use of concept mapping and online course module techniques as a part of the course. For the purpose of this study, we used an experimental design that involves a single instructor teaching the topic of introduction to the internal combustion engines (IICE) in a given semester. Students were randomly allocated to experimental (n = 77) and control groups (n = 74). The experimental group was subjected to concept mapping strategy and the use of an online course module in addition to traditional teaching (lecture method). The control group was taught using a traditional teaching method. Results revealed that students in the experimental group had significantly higher scores than those of the control group. The performance of the students was analyzed at different levels of Bloom's taxonomy. Our results are consistent with the findings from other researches that students' performance improves by the use of active learning methods. Students reacted positively to this newly presented methodology.
