摘要
Urban agriculture is related to food autonomy in cities and linked to social, economic and environmental factors. In this sense, the community gardens of Palmas generate benefits to horticulturalists and the community. The aim of this study was to report and discuss perspectives and challenges the urban agriculture, its contributions to food security and income generation. For the realization the research was applied a questionnaire to 18 horticulturists and a servant of the Municipal Secretariat of Rural Development. The main results obtained with the research were that the cultivation of vegetables and medicinal plants contributed to food security, generation and complementation of income of the families involved. It is concluded that, the gardens exercise an extremely important social role for food security and in the income of families, in addition to the occupation of public spaces in the generation of social and economic development in the city of Palmas.
