A stable way to reproduce the elastic P-wave propagation in transversely isotropic media is proposed. Rather than using the elastic wave equation the present approach relies on a modified version of the acoustic equation formerly proposed by T. Alkhalifah [1] which yields a kinematically good approximation of P-wave propagation in an anisotropic media. However, a major modification is introduced to the former version of this acoustic equation in order to remove an analytical artifact from the solution. This makes the equation more stable and amenable for seismic modeling and migration implementations. Numerical examples validates this new mathematical model.
